Characteristics of an e-visa and the terms and conditions of its issue


1. An e-visa may be only issued to citizens of the following states, the list of which is established by the Government of the Russian Federation:

  • Algeria
  • Bahrain
  • Brunei
  • India
  • Iran
  • Qatar
  • People's Republic of China
  • Democratic People's Republic of Korea
  • Kuwait
  • Morocco
  • Mexico
  • United Arab Emirates
  • Oman
  • Saudi Arabia
  • Singapore
  • Tunisia
  • Turkey
  • Japan

2. E-visas are issued free of charge. You do not need an invitation, hotel reservation confirmation, or any other document confirming the purpose of your trip to the Russian Federation. An e-visa is issued within four calendar days after submitting an application.

3. An e-visa is only valid for entry to and exit from the Russian Federation through the following entry points at the State Border of the Russian Federation in the territory of the Far Eastern Federal District:
air border point Vladivostok (Knevichi);Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky (Yelizovo); Blagoveshchensk; Khabarovsk (Novy); Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk (Khomutovo); Anadyr (Ugolny);
sea border points Vladivostok, Zarubino, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, Korsakov, Posyet;
railway border points Pogranichny, Khasan, Makhalino;
automobile border points Poltavka, Turiy Rog.

4. An e-visa is a one-time visa valid for 30 calendar days from its issue date. An e-visa allows you to stay in the Russian Federation for up to eight days from the entry date within the visa duration period. The visa duration period and/or the permitted period of stay under the visa shall not be extended.

5. There are different categories of e-visa: an ordinary business visa (business is the purpose of the trip); an ordinary tourist visa (tourism is the purpose of the trip); an ordinary humanitarian visa (the purpose of the trip includes sports, cultural, and scientific and technical events). If the purpose of your trip does not correspond to any of the above, you should apply for an ordinary (not an electronic) visa at a diplomatic mission or a consular post of the Russian Federation.

6. Foreign citizens who arrive in the Russian Federation on an e-visa shall have freedom of movement and travel within the constituent entity of the Russian Federation they have entered, except for visits to territories, organizations, and facilities requiring a special entry permit under the federal laws of the Russian Federation.
Foreign citizens shall only exit the Russian Federation via the border points of the constituent entity of the Russian Federation through which they have entered.

7. An e-visa application may be filled out on this website no earlier than 20 days and no later than 4 days before the proposed date of entry to the Russian Federation.

8. Your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of your e-visa application. The passport must have sufficient space for border crossing stamps.

9. Foreign citizens who arrive in the Russian Federation on an e-visas must a health insurance policy valid in the Russian Federation for the period of their stay.

10. If you have a valid Russian visa in your passport, you do not need to obtain an e-visa to visit the free port of Vladivostok. You may visit it on the basis of an ordinary visa valid for the period of your visit and without the restrictions established for an e-visa. An ordinary visa may not be extended by obtaining an e-visa.

11. Before filling out an e-visa application, you must consent to the automated processing, transfer, and retention of data provided in your application for the purpose of issuing the e-visa.

12. Information provided in your application shall be complete and true. Any incorrect information (including passport details) may lead to your visa application being refused or to the cancellation of an already issued visa at the entry point at the State Border of the Russian Federation.

1. Applicants must fill out their last name and first name/names. If the applicant does not have a last name or a first name/names, an e-visa application cannot be accepted for processing. In this case, the applicant should apply for an ordinary (not electronic) visa at the diplomatic mission or a consular post of the Russian Federation.

2. The day, month, and year of the applicant's date of birth must be known. If the date of birth is unknown or partially known, an e-visa application cannot be accepted for processing. In this case, the applicant should apply for an ordinary (not electronic) visa at the diplomatic mission or a consular post of the Russian Federation.

3. If the applicant is traveling with minor children included in the applicant's passport, a separate e-visa application must be submitted for each child. All minor children traveling with their parents must have a separate e-visa.

4. Before you start filling out the application, make sure that you have:
Web browser with JavaScript installed. We currently support the following browsers: Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer (Windows) 10 or later versions. We cannot guarantee the correct operation of the website if other browsers are used.
Software for viewing and printing PDF files. We recommend Adobe Acrobat Reader.
Your valid national passport.

5. Choose the language for tips from the drop-down list. Tips will help explain the questions that you need to answer. If you choose Russian, all answers to the questions in the applications must be in the Russian language only, except for the last names, first names, addresses, and names of institutions, which must be entered in English. If you choose English, all your answers must be in English only, using the Latin alphabet. If the last name or first names include national language characters not included in the Latin alphabet (e.g., Ñ, É, Ü, or Ç), fill out the relevant fields using transliterated characters from the first machine-readable line of your passport. For example, if the name in the visual passport zone is Séo Türre, you must write the names from the machine-readable line "Seo Tuerre" in the application.

6. Confirm your consent to the automated processing, transfer, and retention of data provided in your application for the purpose of issuing an e-visa.

7. Click "Proceed to fill out the application" to start filling out a new application.

8. Choose the menu item "Retrieve application" to continue filling out the application or to edit, view, and print out a previously completed application.

9. Enter and confirm your password.

10. Write down or print out the application number displayed in the upper right corner of the page. You will need this to continue filling out the application if your session is interrupted. Use the "Save draft" button to save a draft application. Your e-visa application will remain available for 30 days after its last save.

11. Proceed to filling out the fields in the application. Follow the tips on each page of the application. Fields marked with an asterisk (*) are required. If you make any errors or have not filled out all the required fields, they will be highlighted, and a message will appear under them indicating the error you need to fix.

12. Upload your color digital photo in JPEG format. The photo must meet the following requirements.

13. Click "Send" to submit the application and wait for confirmation that it has been accepted for processing.

After the application is sent:

You can only track your application's status on this website. After your application is registered, its status will change to "Application being processed." As soon as a decision on your application is taken, its status will change to "Visa issued" or "Visa refused," and you will be able to download a PDF file with the result of your application.

If your e-visa application is approved, print out the notification confirming the decision. If you do not have a printer, you must save the information from the notification so that you can show it to the transport company representative when boarding the transport, as well as to Border Guard officers during passport control at the entry point when entering the free port of Vladivostok.

IMPORTANT: do not save the PDF file with the result of your application on a computer that may be accessed by a person not authorized to view or record your personal data. If you save the file on the hard drive of a shared or public computer, for example on a computer in a cyber café or a library, other users may be able to find and open it.

If you do not receive notification that your e-visa has been issued or refused within four days, you can apply for a visa using the general procedure at a diplomatic mission or a consular post of the Russian Federation.

PLEASE NOTE: Notification that you have been issued an e-visa does not guarantee your entry into the Russian Federation. You may be refused entry at the border crossing point if circumstances arise as specified in Federal Law No. 114-FZ dated August 15, 1996 "On the Procedure for Exiting and Entering the Russian Federation."
