Carriage of Pets

If you decide to travel with your pet, please inform the airline at least 36 hours before departure (to the operator when booking or buying an air ticket), because animals are only transported with the airline's consent and there are restrictions regarding the number and species of animals.

The airline accepts for transportation dogs, cats, birds, and other small pet (domestic) animals/birds, as well as working dogs of the canine service of federal executive agencies with payment of a baggage fee (regardless of other passenger belongings transported as baggage). Brachycephalic dog breeds* (only on codeshare flights operated with Aeroflot PJSC), sick and test animals/birds, reptiles, rodents, insects, fish, and fish seed, as well as other sea and fresh-water animals requiring transportation in water are not accepted for transportation. Cattle, wild, carnivorous animals, and bees are also not accepted for transportation.

* - flat-faced dogs with short, squashed noses: Bulldog (English, French, American), Pug, Pekingese, Shi Tzu, Boxer, Griffon (Belgian, Brussels), Boston Terrier, Dogue de Bordeaux, Japanese Chin.

Only adult legally capable passengers are allowed to transport animals or birds.

The passenger can only carry one container in the passenger cabin or in the baggage hold (only on codeshare flights operated with Aeroflot PJSC).

Consult a veterinarian to prepare your animal for the flight.

Animals in the Cabin

Animals/birds may be transported in the passenger cabin if their weight including the cage/container does not exceed 8 kg. The dimensions of a (hard) container for transporting an animal in the cabin must not exceed 44x30x26 cm, and the sum of the three dimensions of a soft travel carrier must not exceed 126 cm. A passenger may only carry one container in the cabin, and only one animal may be placed in the container. An exception is made for no more than three kittens or puppies more than eight weeks old but under six months old; they may be carried in the passenger cabin provided the weight of the animals together with the container does not exceed 8 kg.

Animals are only accepted for transportation in the cabin in a purpose-designed container or travel carrier. The container or travel carrier must have enough space, have ventilation holes, and a reliable locking device preventing its accidental opening.

The container or travel carrier bottom must be solid, watertight, and covered with an absorbent non-toxic material. The container or travel carrier design must prevent the absorbent material from spilling.

Birds are transported in a cage. The cage must be covered with a thick cloth preventing exposure to light during transportation, and it must have a locking device to prevent the accidental opening of the cage.

Cages or containers (travel carriers) on board the aircraft must not be placed by emergency exits, block escape routes, or interfere with the comfort or service of other passengers.

A passenger transporting an animal in the passenger cabin is only provided with a window seat. Passengers who are members of one family and transporting two containers with pets in the passenger cabin may be given adjacent seats in the central block of seats, subject to availability when checking in at the airport.

The container with the animal must be placed under the seat in front or on the floor next to the passenger's feet and must be fastened to the passenger's seat belt with one or two extension belts while the aircraft is moving along the apron, and during takeoff and landing.

It is forbidden to remove the bird or animal from the container in the aircraft cabin.

A passenger traveling with an animal/bird shall not be seated next to the emergency exits and in the first row in the economy cabin in front of the bulkhead of the passenger cabin.

Animals in the Aircraft Baggage Hold

If the weight of the animal together with the container/cage exceeds 8 kg, it may only travel in the baggage hold as a special type of non-standard baggage and shall be paid for at a special baggage fee.

The weight of the container together with the animal must not exceed 50 kg in case of transportation in the baggage hold.

When transported in the baggage hold, only one animal may be transported in a container/cage.

The owner of the animal must label the container with his/her emergency contact details and the animal's name. If necessary, a sticker can be provided for the passenger to fill out by an airline employee at the airport.

The owner of the animal or bird must use a container/cage for transportation whose design and material protects the animal or bird from injury during transportation:

  • the container must be made of impact-resistant hard material. A container made entirely of welded or reinforcement mesh is not accepted for transportation;
  • the container must be big enough to allow the animal to stand upright and make a full turn, and lie in a natural position;
  • the container bottom must be solid, watertight, and covered with an absorbent non-toxic material. The container bottom design must prevent the absorbent material from spilling;
  • the container roof must be solid. The top sections of the container sides must have ventilation holes/grilles to allow air to enter;
  • the container door must be securely attached to the container so that the animal cannot break it;
  • the size of the door mesh must not exceed 25x25 mm to prevent animal's paws, nose, or tail from getting caught;
  • the container must be securely locked ensuring that it cannot open accidentally, be opened by the animal, and to prevent unauthorized access to the animal during the flight;
  • the inner surface of the container must have smooth rounded surfaces preventing injury to the animal during transportation;
  • the container must be equipped with handles to allow it to be carried by two baggage handlers;
  • if the container is equipped with wheels, they must be removed or fixed during transportation.

Aggressive or fighting dog breeds are only accepted for transportation in reinforced containers:

  • the container door must be smooth and made from metal;
  • the upper and lower parts of a collapsible container must be connected with metal bolts and nuts.

Animals are transported as baggage only if their weight together with the container/cage does not exceed 50 kg. Please ask for details when booking transportation.

Please note that to arrange your pet's transportation in the baggage hold, you must arrive at the airport check-in desk in good time.

Transportation of Animals (Birds) on Board DHC-6 Aircraft

Pets (dogs, cats, birds) and working dogs may only be transported on board DHC-6 aircraft in the cabin or in the baggage hold upon prior approval from the Airline's representative at Vladivostok airport and the passenger's consent to the terms of transportation.

For transportation in the aircraft cabin, the weight of the animal (bird) together with the container/cage must not exceed 8 kg, and the sum of the three dimensions of the container/cage must not exceed 115 cm (length 55 cm, width 40 cm, height 20 cm).

For transportation in the aircraft baggage hold, the weight of the animal (bird) together with the container (cage) must not exceed 50 kg, and the sum of the three dimensions of the container (cage) must not exceed 230 cm (length 90 cm, width 60 cm, height 80 cm).

Transportation of Guide Dogs

To transport a dog accompanying a person with disabilities, a document confirming the dog's special training and a document confirming the passenger's disability must be presented. Transportation is approved at least 36 hours prior to the departure time specified in the schedule. A dog accompanying a passenger with disabilities is transported free of charge, without a container in the passenger cabin provided the dog has a collar, a muzzle, and is tied to the seat at the feet of the passenger it is accompanying.

Animals Whose Weight Together with the Container Exceeds 50 Kg, Exotic Animals, and Other Animals

To transport animals whose weight together with the container exceeds 50 kg, exotic animals, and other animals, please contact an air cargo agent.

Payment for Animal Transportation

On Aeroflot codeshare flights with the SU code operated by Aurora, animal/bird transportation is not included in the free baggage allowance and is charged as non-standard baggage.

On Aurora's own international and domestic flights with the HZ code, pet animals and birds are charged at the second baggage piece fee (regardless of the total number of baggage pieces of the passengers, including animals, and the class of service). Additional payment will be required if the size and/or weight of the animal together with the cage exceeds the established standards for one piece of baggage.

If the established standards for one piece of baggage are exceeded in terms of weight and size when transporting animals, the total fee will be the sum of the corresponding baggage fees for the baggage checked in above the allowance.

Payment is to be made for each container/cage.

Only guide dogs accompanying their owners during the flight are transported free of charge.

Documents for Animal Transportation

The owner of the animal or bird is responsible for compliance with the laws of the country to, from, or via which the transportation is performed. Please make sure that you can provide all necessary documents stipulated by the laws of the Russian Federation, international agreements, and the laws of the country to, from, or via which the transportation is performed.
