ESCORT TP

Expert System for Comprehensive Assessment of Actual Trends in Piloting.

Decoded flight information collected over the entire period of aircraft operation is stored in a dedicated database. In addition, the express analysis program automatically sets the flight path of the aircraft along the entire route, gauges the ground run and landing roll distance, as well as the climb gradient, and calculates over 60 further flight control points. A special database entry records whether the captain or first officer was flying the aircraft.

It was tested on two aircraft types: DHC 8-200 and Boeing 737-200. The results have been published in nine articles in leading aviation media.

Upon gauging the three levels of deviation from the norm for each control point and calculating the final score for the flight with the use of certain algorithms, we can give a quantitative assessment of the piloting quality as a generalized value rather than the usual satisfactory, good, or excellent grades. 

By leveraging the mathematical apparatus of probability theory, as well as statistical and mathematical analysis, we can analyze both general trends across a flight unit and the piloting skills of a particular pilot.

Most importantly, the system can be used to detect violations committed by the crew in flight, as well as to prevent such violations. The latter is in fact the highest priority here.

The system makes it possible to switch from retroactive to proactive risk management methods in flight Safety Management Systems (SMS).

Express Flight Data Analysis Software for DHC 8-200 Aircraft

Work on the development started in 2006 and is still in progress. The program performs express analysis of DHC 8-200 flight data collected by SSFDR or UFDR recorders.

Based on the results of tests performed at the State Flight Safety Center, Flight Data Express Analysis Software for DHC 8-200 Aircraft was authorized for use (Decree of the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation, Rostransnadzor No. 5.6.-578 GA dated August 6, 2005) and became Article 1005 on the Register of Special Software for Flight Data Processing Systems Authorized for Use by Aviation Enterprises of the Russian Federation www.flysafety.ru.

The software uses special algorithms to decode and analyze flight data across sixty-seven messages, scanning for any situations where parameters go beyond flight limits.

The message confirmation visualization principle has been implemented. The software automatically sets the flight path of the aircraft along the entire route, gauges the ground run and landing roll distance, as well as the climb gradient, and calculates over 93 further flight control points. All of the above is performed over a single express analysis process cycle, and the results are entered into the database, which is, in turn, the information platform for the ESCORT TP software.

After decoding the flight data in the recorder operation division, the results are instantly made available to the flight unit's command crew via the corporate computer network. All graphic materials from the flight are available to the command and training staff when analyzing flight data.

The decoded flight data collected over the entire period of aircraft operation is stored in a dedicated database that allows for systemic, retrospective, or personalized analysis.

Express Flight Data Analysis Software for Boeing 737-500 Aircraft

Work on the development started in 2000 and is still in progress. The program performs express analysis of Boeing 737-500 flight data collected by SSFDR or UFDR recorders.

Based on the results of tests performed at the State Flight Safety Center, the software was authorized for use (Decree of State Agency for Civil Aviation No. 24.10-266 dated September 18, 2002) and became Article 140 on the Register of Special Software.
The software uses special algorithms to decode and analyze flight data across forty-three messages, scanning for any situations where parameters go beyond flight limits.

The message confirmation visualization principle has been implemented. The software automatically sets the flight path of the aircraft along the entire route, gauges the ground run and landing roll distance, as well as the climb gradient, and calculates 63 further flight control points. All of the above is performed over a single express analysis process cycle, and the results are entered into the database, which is, in turn, the information platform for the ESCORT TP software.
